A lot of these patients are experiencing issues related to their peripheral nervous system (PNS). root cause of pain by sending small amounts of electrical current to those nerves in order to mask the pain you\u2019re feeling.\u00a0<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the initial phase of the peripheral nerve stimulation process, you\u2019ll have an electrode placed near the affected nerves. Patients do not typically need to be fully unconscious for this procedure. We\u2019ll typically apply a local anesthetic, or a light general anesthetic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At this point &#8211; you\u2019d still be in the trial period for this treatment, where both you and I will go over your responsiveness to the treatment and whether or not it will be effective for you in the long-term. This is a vital part of the process as it makes no sense to implant such a device if it will not give you all of the comfort you need.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you do not choose to continue with this treatment, the device will be removed and alternative treatment methods will be pursued. If this method of treatment helps reduce your pain and you decide to move forward with it, we will continue into the next phase.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>The second phase of this treatment process involves insertion of a permanent implant, generally these should last for years.<\/strong>\u00a0 The device is powered wirelessly either with a cell phone app or with an adhesive receiver that you place on your skin whenever you need the device to work.\u00a0 You control the peripheral nerve stimulator and you are empowered to manage your own pain.\u00a0 At this point, patients are able to continue regular activities.
